~Hope you like my Diablo Prologue~
Take heed and bear witness to the truths that lie herein, for they are the last legacy of the Horadrim.
There is a war that rages on even now, beyond the fields that we know--between the utopian kingdoms of the high heavens and the chaotic pits of the burning hells.
This war is known as the great conflict, and it has raged and burned longer than any of the stars in the sky.
Neither side ever gains sway for long as the forces of light and darkness constantly vie for control over all creation.
The Arch-Angel Inarius grew weary of the never-ending struggle, and, gathering a handful of like-minded angelic companions, left the battlefields.
While searching for a place untouched by battle, Inarius and his followers encountered a group of Demons from the Burning Hells who had also grown weary of conflict.
Led by Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto, these demons joined with the angels. Eventually Lilith and Inarius fell in love.
By gradually manipulating the very substance of the universe, Inarius and Lilith created the world of Sanctuary.
Inarius also created a massive crystal-like object known as the "Worldstone," which he bound to Sanctuary and to himself.
Used to protect Sanctuary from the ever-roving eyes of the High Heavens and Burning Hells.
The greater lords of Heaven and Hell found that their powers were greatly reduced while in Sanctuary.
Izual, who had fallen into the Darkness, suggested that the Soulstones might be manipulated by the Three in order to channel great amounts of power from Hell directly into the mortal realm, allowing the forces of Hell to seize control.
In order to gain possession of the Soulstones, the Three lure the Angels into using the Soulstones against them.
So it came to be that there was a great revolution within the Burning Hells known as the Dark Exile.
The Lesser Evils overthrew the three Prime Evils and banished their spirit forms to the mortal realm, where they would remain trapped forever.
The Demons Belial and Azmodan fought to claim rulership during the abscence of the Three Brothers, meanwhile the forces of the High Heavens continually battered upon the very gates of Hell.
The coming of the Great Conflict to the mortal realm is known as the Sin War.
Angels and Demons, disguising themselves while traveling amongst men, attempted to secretly lure mortals to their respective causes.
Over time, the forces of Darkness discovered that mortals responded much more to brute force than to subtle coercion, and so began to terrorize Man into submission.
The Angels fought to defend humanity against this demonic oppression, but all too often their austere methods and severe punishments succeeded only in alienating those whom they sought to protect.
The violent battles of the Sin War occurred very often, but they were seldom witnessed by the prying eyes of Man.
Only a few souls were aware of the supernatural beings that walked amongst the huddled masses of humanity.
Powerful mortals arose and accepted the challenge of the Sin War, allying themselves with both sides in the Great Conflict.
The legendary deeds of these great mortal warriors served to earn both the respect and hatred of the netherworlds.
The Horadrim was formed by the Archangel Tyrael who helped task the Magi with defeating the Three who were devastating their mortal realm.
Tyrael gave the Horadrim three Soulstones which would be able to contain the demons once they had been defeated.
Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, was defeated and captured in Kehjistan, imprisoned beneath the Temple of Light in Kurast where the Zakarum monks were tasked with protecting the Soulstone.
During fight the sacred soulstone tasked to imprison Baal was shattered.
The stone alone could not contain the demon, so Tal Rasha sought to bind Baal within himself, where his soul would wrestle with the demon for all eternity.
Following the wake of terror that the demon spread as he went, Diablo was imprisoned within the remaining Soulstone.
